As a Kid, Your Emotions Were “Too Much”

“¡Cállate! Stop being so dramatic.”

You just wanted love and affection, but your parents were too angry, stressed, or overwhelmed to really see you.

So, you learned to make yourself small…

You started smiling nicely and stepping softly, hoping to keep their anger at bay.

Now, you constantly feel like you’re not enough.

Scrolling through social media, you compare yourself and find yourself lacking: not thin enough, not successful enough, not productive enough, not passionate enough.

You’re Exhausted from Working So Damn Hard

There’s no time for rest. You constantly have to swim at full speed just to keep from drowning.

Stuck in survival mode, you work nonstop because that’s how your ancestors got by when they came to this country.

When you think of your family, worries about their health, finances, or immigration status churn in your gut. With the guilt of leaving home looming over you, you question whether you’re doing enough for them.

At the same time, you’re angry that so many of your peers don’t have to carry that burden. It’s not freakin’ fair!

The Weight on Your Shoulders

Remembering how your parents ignored or shot you down as a child is gutting.

Carrying your ancestors’ stories, their immigration trauma, and their families’ dysfunction and violence is a heavy load

Acknowledging the ways our systems of oppression minimize you every day is exhausting.

You’re clear on this, though: You don’t want to carry this trauma forward. You want to interrupt the unhealthy patterns you inherited. You want a life of meaning and ease.

You’re DONE carrying it all… but how do you make a change?

Announcement! Life Doesn’t Have to Feel This Heavy

I hate to say this, but it’s true: Suffering is inevitable. Grief, rage, exhaustion, sadness… they are part of life (and part of what lets us know we’re alive).

But it’s possible to set down your heavy burdens and navigate life’s suffering with greater ease.

There is power in speaking your story out loud – in having someone hear you and help you hold its weight.

It Might Sound Strange, But…

When you stop pushing away your painful memories and feelings and start turning toward them in therapy, a strange magic happens – they become more bearable. Instead of fighting against them, you begin to move through them – and toward something new.

As your therapist, I believe you hold the keys to your healing.

My job is to help you find them so you can unlock a new and more expansive future.

Therapy is not instant, and it’s not easy.

But, when you commit yourself to the process and the work, it can be transformative.
