Perinatal Therapy

Pregnancy isn’t what you expected.

Before getting pregnant, you imagined yourself glowing… feeling tiny wiggles inside… overjoyed by the prospect of meeting your little one and becoming a parent.

But that is NOT your reality now. Your body has been hijacked. Every week, new mysterious symptoms appear. You’re exhausted, nauseous, and swollen.

The bliss you thought you would feel has dissolved into anxiety about the looming birth, grief about losing your freedom, and uncertainty about whether you want this after all.

You wonder, “Is this normal? Is there something wrong?”

Postpartum, things feel like they’ve unraveled.

One moment, you’re marveling at the beauty and deep connection you feel with your child. The next, you are hopeless and sobbing. And the next, you’re desperately shoving a bagel into your mouth while trying to get the baby to eat.

As you wake up again – and again – to the sound of your crying baby in the night, your sanity feels elusive. Your partnership is strained by the constant demands of caring for your baby. You don’t recognize your body and all the new fluids leaking out of it.

Besieged by anxiety about whether you’re a “good enough” parent, you spend hours researching how to do things “right.” But the deeper you dig, the more contradictory answers you find and the more overwhelmed you feel.

Why did no one tell you it would be this hard?

You deserve support.

The experiences of growing, birthing, and caring for a new life are profound and intense.

It’s one of the most fundamental human experiences we can have, yet it can leave us overwhelmed and alone.

You deserve support as you navigate this remarkable journey.

What you’re going through is normal.

The first thing I want you to know is this: You’re not going crazy, and you’re not alone. Each person has a different version of the perinatal journey, but everyone’s experience is intense and unexpected.

In therapy with me, you can expect immense compassion for your experiences: your rage, grief, joy, confusion, exhaustion, and more.

(You will NOT get the trite platitudes that made my blood boil during my own perinatal time – things like, “Just remember: Everything is temporary.”)

Therapy is a powerful tool for change.

I will support you in reconnecting with your sense of inner wisdom and calm using mindfulness techniques. You will discover that you are good enough and that your child is just fine.

Together, we will spotlight YOUR needs and desires. We will explore practical tools for building collective support. And you will build up the support you need to make space for YOURSELF again.

Through mind, body, and spirit explorations, you will move through your and your ancestors’ traumas so that you don’t pass them on to the next generation.

A different kind of future is possible!

It might seem out of reach right now, but it is possible to balance parenthood with personhood.

As you shift your expectations of yourself and build collective support, you will experience greater ease and a deeper connection with your new child.

Let’s partner up to get you there.
